As the number of internal combustion engines increases, global emission values are also rising. Apart from carbon dioxide, particularly soot and nitrogen oxides are causing serious problems for our environment. Nitrogen oxides NO or NO2, for example, are responsible for high ozone concentrations on busy roads.

To some extent these pollutants can be reduced by optimized internal combustion as well as aftertreatment of the exhaust gases in the exhaust gas system. However, the current legal requirements for the reduction in NOx and particles can be fulfilled only by additional aftertreatment of the exhaust gas.

To reduce nitrogen oxides, ammonia is used in the aftertreatment of the exhaust gases. Selective catalytic reduction (SCR) is the core of the technology which ensures a cleaner Environment. SCR technology is not new and has already been used for a long time in power plants. Further reduction in the emission limits requires the use of this technology also in construction machines, ships, power generators, transport and passenger vehicles.
